What if Violence Wasn't an Option?
The Manhattan gentlemen’s clubs I’ve worked in had a zero tolerance policy on violence. Customers came to us for an upscale experience—violence wasn’t on the menu.
Management never even used the word “stripper.” We were referred to as “entertainers.” Fighting with each other was not tolerated. Any girl who got physical would be escorted to her locker, made to clean it out, and never invited back—no questions asked.
It didn’t matter who was right or who was wrong. If you were violent, you were out.
In my 20+ years on the job, I never once saw my coworkers physically fight with each other. No argument was worth losing a lucrative job. People behave according to incentives — and in the club, we were incentivized not to fight.
Imagine if governments faced the same consequences for violence that we did.
In our current state, we are operating at levels lower than a strip club.
